What is Shan Shen Bu?
Shan Shen Bu (闪身步, “dodge step”) is a basic footwork move from Anhui Flower Drum Lantern folk dance: quick sideways steps, a fast weight shift, and a hard stop.
The name
“Flash-step dance” and “dodge step” are descriptive English names. The original term is 闪身步. On TikTok people also write it as shanshenbu or shan shen bu. Those spellings are the same step.
Where the trend started
The step comes from a 2018 teaching video of Anhui Flower Drum Lantern. In early October 2026 the clips spread on Douyin and TikTok, and AI-generated versions followed within weeks. Related moves trending alongside it include 狗熊哆嗦毛 and 浪子踢球.
